简介

I am a scientist and policy advisor specialized in climate change impacts, risk assessment, and adaptation pathways, with a primary focus on marine and coastal socio-ecological systems. My career has been dedicated to bridging the gap between rigorous scientific evidence and the development of actionable public policies to foster resilience in fisheries, aquaculture, and coastal communities. ACADEMIC BACKGROUND & EXPERTISE I hold a PhD in Global Change (Cum Laude), a Master’s in Ecology, and a Bachelor’s in Sciences with Mention in Biology. My academic foundation is complemented by postgraduate diplomas in Environmental Sciences and Disaster Management. This interdisciplinary training allows me to approach climate challenges from both a biological and a governance perspective, integrating oceanography, ecophysiology, and social-ecological analysis. RESEARCH LEADERSHIP & PROJECT PORTAFOLIO Throughout my career, I have demonstrated a robust capacity for leading and managing diverse scientific and technical initiatives. To date, I have participated in 18 national and international research projects, serving in key leadership roles such as Director, Principal Investigator (PI), and Co-Investigator. These projects have been funded by prestigious institutions, including the European Commission (Horizon 2020), the Packard Foundation, and various national science agencies in Spain and Chile. Complementing my academic research, I have led 5 high-level consultancies for international organizations such as UNEP, FAO, and the United Nations Environment Programme, as well as the Chilean Ministry of the Environment. These efforts focus on the development of climate risk indices, the implementation of transparency frameworks (NDC), and the co-design of adaptation strategies for diverse sectors including tourism and artisanal fisheries. These projects have been focused on: - Climate Risk & Vulnerability: Investigating how ocean acidification, warming, and deoxygenation affect marine calcifiers and the industries that depend on them. - Climate Planning: I have directed the design of Regional Climate Action Plans (PARCC) in Chile, facilitating participatory processes that integrate local and Indigenous knowledge with scientific data. - Nature-based Solutions (NbS): My work includes evaluating blue carbon potential and macroalgae as tools for mitigation and adaptation. - Resilience Metrics: Developing and validating indicators to monitor climate resilience at local and regional scales. PUBLICATIONS & PROFESSIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS To date (early 2026), I have authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as Global Change Biology and Science of the Total Environment, maintaining an H-index of 23 with over 5,400 citations. Beyond academic papers, I prioritize the creation of decision-support tools, including policy briefs/papers and technical reports. MISSION & VALUES My goal is to ensure that scientific research does not remain in the laboratory but serves as a fundamental pillar for building a sustainable and equitable future. I am also deeply committed to science communication and mentoring the next generation of researchers in the field of global change. GLOBAL LEADERSHIP & SCIENCE-POLICY INTERFACE My work at the science-policy interface is defined by my contribution to global assessments and international climate governance: - IPCC Lead Author: I had the honor of serving as a Lead Author for the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), specifically within Working Group II (Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability) for the Central and South America chapter. - Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI): I currently serve as the Vice-Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), advising on the strategic scientific agenda for the Americas. - Race to Resilience (UN High-Level Champions): As the Project Manager and Resilience Research Lead for the Technical Secretariat, I lead the development and refinement of global metrics to measure and track the impact of climate adaptation actions by non-state actors. - UNFCCC Engagement: I have actively participated in multiple Conferences of the Parties (COP20, COP25, COP29, and COP30), representing scientific interests in global negotiations. CORE RESEARCH INTERESTS - Climate Change Risks, Adaptation & Resilience Metrics - Marine Socio-Ecological Systems (Fisheries & Aquaculture) - Science–Policy–Society Interface - Ocean Governance & Blue Carbon - Disaster Risk Reduction & Coastal Management
