德里贝·阿马雷

Dr. Amare Deribew is a public health expert and epidemiologist trained in Ethiopia (Jimma University) and in Belgium (Antwerp University). Currently, he is the Technical Director of ABH Partners where he provides technical and leadership guidance for program, research, training and higher education. Over the past 20 years, he has developed extensive experience in leadership, research and program management. He has designed and led the implementations of all facets of the primary health care (PHC), nutrition/food security, Health System Strengthening and WASH programs and build the capacity of program coordinators/Directors through coaching and mentoring. He is well versed with the project management cycle and management of programs in a complex environment and developed a robust M and E framework to achieve program objectives. He has led several epidemic control initiatives as a lead epidemiologist and shown his capacity to control disaster timely. He has shown strong leadership and communication skills in time of crisis as acting country Director of International Medical Corps in Darfur and the country Director of Nutrition International in Ethiopia and expanded the program portfolio extensively. He has authored several proposals on PHC, nutrition/food security and WASH programs and mobilized resources from several donors including USAID/OFDA, ECHO, EU, WHO, UNDP and others. In addition to program related activities, he has an extensive experience in academics and research. He has worked in Oxford University as epidemiologist and Jimma Universities as Publication and extension Director and associate Professor and developed the research policy of the University. He has also conducted several need-based research and published more than 90 articles in the international Journals. His research focused on TB, HIV and malaria, childhood vaccines and child survival. He has developed several curricula for the master’s program in Epidemiology and Public Health. He authored several teaching modules and instructed and coached graduate students in several universities in Ethiopia. He received the gold medal award from the Ethiopian Public Health Association for his outstanding contribution as senior public health researcher. His career goal is to improve child survival and population health through the implementation of innovative health programs and research.
