Dr. Chen is one of the nation's leaders in medical mycology and infection control. Her research focus includes clinical and molecular epidemiology of invasive fungal diseases, surveillance of healthcare-associated infection and medical informatics, the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for invasive fungal infections, and pathogenesis of Candida infection. She initiates and chairs the Asia Fungal Working Group of the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology. She is PI or co-PI of a series multicenter, clinical and molecular epidemiological studies of fungal infections in Asia as well in Taiwan. She has authored or coauthored more than 200 peer-reviewed journal articles such as Clinical Infectious Diseases, Emerging Infection Diseases, Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, J Med Internet Res, PLoS One, Journal of Clinical Microbiology, Medical Mycology, Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, Journal of Hospital Infection, and Journal of the Formosan Medical Association. In order to enhance awareness of invasive fungal infection, to improve quality of medical care and laboratory practice, and to facilitate research, she chair, design and promote continued education programs, including Medical Mycology Training Network in Asia and in Taiwan, and Asia CARE meeting. Dr. Chen has received several achievement awards, including personal academic awards from The Infectious Diseases Society of Taiwan and Formosa Medical Association, and, on behalf of National Taiwan University Hospital, quality improvement awards from CDC and Taipei City Government; Asia Pacific Hand Hygiene Excellent Award (developed country category) from Asia-Pacific Society of Infection Control and WHO Collaborating Centre on Patient Safety, Switzerland. She is a consultant or committee member at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, CDC, TFDA, and Taipei City Government.
