Xinghuo Yu is a Distinguished Professor, a Vice-Chancellor's Professorial Fellow, and an Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor and the Chair of the Professorial Academy at RMIT University (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology), Melbourne, Australia. He was the President of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society for 2018 and 2019.
He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, a Honorary Fellow of Engineers Australia, and a Fellow of the IEEE, International Federation of Automatic Control, Australian Computer Society, and Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also an Engineering Executive and a Chartered Professional Engineer of Engineers Australia.
He started his academic career in 1989 as a Postdoctoral Fellow with the University of Adelaide, Adelaide, Australia. In 1991, he joined Central Queensland University, Rockhampton, Australia, where, before he left in 2002, he was Professor of Intelligent Systems and Associate Dean (Research) of Faculty of Informatics & Communication. Since 2002, he has been with RMIT University, where he has occupied various senior academic and managerial positions such as Full Professor, Associate Dean and Research Institute Director.
He has worked extensively with industries in energy, security, resources, and manufacturing. He was on the Board of Governors of the Australian Photonics Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) (2003-2006) and the Science Advisory Committee of the Advanced Manufacturing CRC (2008-2013), and served as a Non-Executive Director of Oceania Cyber Security Centre Limited (2016-2021) and its Interim Chair from April 2020 to January 2021.
He Yu has published extensively in Control Systems, Intelligent and Complex Systems, and Energy Systems. He has been a Clarivate's Highly Cited Researcher since 2015. He received many awards and honours for his contributions, including the 2013 Dr.-Ing. Eugene Mittelmann Achievement Award of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, the 2018 M A Sargent Medal from Engineers Australia, and the 2018 Australasian AI Distinguished Research Contribution Award from Australian Computer Society.
