Xiaogang Liu was born in Jiangxi, China. He earned his BE degree in Chemical Engineering from Beijing Technology and Business University. He received his MS degree in Chemistry from East Carolina University and completed his PhD at Northwestern University. He then became a postdoctoral fellow at MIT. He joined the faculty of the National University of Singapore in 2006. He holds a joint appointment with the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, Agency for Science, Technology and Research. His interests include lanthanide-doped optical nanomaterials, supramolecular chemistry, and surface science for catalysis, sensors and biomedical applications.
