Vincent Chi‐Chung Cheng

Dr. Cheng is the Consultant Microbiologist, and Infection Control Officer at Queen Mary Hospital. He is also an Honorary Clinical Professor at the Department of Microbiology, The University of Hong Kong. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at The University of Hong Kong in 1994 with distinction in Medicine and received training in the field of internal medicine. In 2012, he was conferred the degree of Doctor of Medicine by The University of Hong Kong and was awarded the Sir Patrick Manson Gold Medal for the best MD thesis. Currently, Dr. Cheng serves as an International Editorial Board member of the Journal of Hospital Infection and Infection Control in Practice. He is also an Editorial Board Member of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, Antimicrobial Stewardship and Healthcare Epidemiology. Additionally, he holds an elected membership in the research council committee (2020 to 2023) and the publication committee (2024 onwards) of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA). Dr. Cheng has also been invited as an expert panelist for the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) guidelines, specifically focusing on the treatment and infection prevention of COVID-19. Dr. Cheng has published over 390 international peer-reviewed original articles in various areas of clinical infectious diseases, including SARS and influenza, diagnostic clinical microbiology, proactive infection control for multiple drug-resistant bacteria, and respiratory and gastrointestinal viruses. He has also conducted hospital outbreak investigations for bacteria, viruses, and fungi. In recognition of his exceptional research influence, Dr. Cheng has been named a '2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 & 2025 Highly Cited Researcher' by Clarivate Analytics. This honor is bestowed upon researchers who have produced multiple highly cited papers ranking in the top 1% by citations for their respective field and year in the Web of Science. In 2022, he was appointed as a member of the Expert Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance by the Hong Kong Government. In 2023, he was invited to join the expert panel of Clean Hospitals and appointed to be the Honorary Advisor to the Hospital Infection Prevention and Control, Guangdong Medical Association, China.
