Trevor W. Robbins CBE FRS FMedSci PhD
Appointments
I have been a Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge from 1997 and a Fellow of Downing College. I was also Professor of Experimental Psychology and Head of the Dept. of Psychology (2002-2017).
I am a Fellow of the British Psychological Society (1990), British Pharmacological Society (2017), Academy of Medical Sciences (2000) as well as the Royal Society (2005). I was made CBE in the New Year’s Honours list. (2012) "for services to medical research".
Research
My research has focused recently on the frontal cortex of the brain and its associated neural systems and their modulation by chemical neurotransmitters. I have sought to understand the functions and underlying mechanisms of the prefrontal cortex in decision-making in humans and other animals. These systems are especially implicated in human psychiatric and many neurological disorders. To aid this research, I co-invented the CANTAB computerized neuropsychological test battery, now used in over 100 countries. I also directed the Behavioural and Clinical Neuroscience Institute at the University of Cambridge from 2005-2015 (MRC and Wellcome Trust funded), the mission of which was to translate basic to clinical neuroscience. I was a recipient of a Senior Investigator Award from the Wellcome Trust (2015-2022).
Publications
I have published about 1000 peer-reviewed articles, (with over 230,000 citations; H index 270, Google Scholar). I have co-edited ten books (including two Discussions of the Royal Society (OUP); The Prefrontal Cortex (1996) and The Neurobiology of Drug Addiction (2009). I edit Psychopharmacology and Current Opinion in the Behavioral Sciences and I am an editorial advisor for Science.

Brain Prize of the Grete Lundbeck European Brain Research Foundation, the most valuable in neuroscience, for work "on human mental disorders" (2014).
