MD, ScD, MSc, MSc. Alexander von Humboldt University Professor and Director of the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health. He is a medical specialist in family medicine and a population health researcher whose work focuses on generating rigorous, policy-relevant evidence to improve health outcomes globally. His research examines the impacts of large-scale global health interventions such as HIV treatment and prevention and childhood vaccination on health, economic, and social outcomes, develops and evaluates innovations to strengthen the delivery of global health interventions through public sector health systems, and advances methods for applied population-based health research. He leads interdisciplinary research programs with international collaborators and holds additional appointments as Adjunct Professor of Global Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Senior Faculty at the Africa Health Research Institute in South Africa.
