Thierry Calandra is Professor of medicine, Service of Immunology and Allergy and former Head of the Infectious Diseases Service at the Lausanne University Hospital and University of Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland. He also is honorary fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies of the Ludwig-Maximilians University, Munich, Germany. Thierry’s research interests focus on innate immunity, sepsis, bacterial and fungal infections in critically ill patients and in immunocompromised hosts. He published over 300 peer-reviewed articles, monographs and book chapters, which appeared in prestigious biomedical journals such as Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Reviews Immunology, The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, The Lancet Infectious Diseases, The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, The Journal of the American Medical Association, The Journal of Experimental Medicine and Clinical Infectious Diseases. Thierry is member of Senate of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences, honorary life member of the Australasian Society for infectious Diseases. In 2017, he received the prestigious Award for Excellence in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases of the European Society of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) in recognition of an outstanding lifetime contribution in infectious diseases.
