Professor Bhattacharya currently holds the Chair in Geomechanics at University of Surrey. He is the co-founder, director and Chief Scientific Officer of RENEW RISK limited (Renewable Energy Risk Analytics company based in Lloyd's of London). Previously he held the post of Senior Lecturer in Dynamics at University of Bristol, Departmental Lecturer in Engineering Science at University of Oxford, Junior Research Fellow at Somerville College (Oxford), 21st Century Centre for Excellence Fellow at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Staff Engineer at Fugro Limited. Professor Bhattacharya earned his doctorate from University of Cambridge in 2003 investigating collapse of pile supported structures in liquefiable soils during earthquakes. His PhD work proposed a new theory on pile failure and won the 2005 T.K.Hseih prize from ICE.
