简介

I am the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, and Biostatistics at Johns Hopkins University, where I’m also Director of the Center for Computational Biology. My lab’s research focuses on the development of new computational methods for analysis of DNA and RNA from the latest sequencing technologies. Over the years we have worked on problems in gene finding, genome and transcriptome assembly, microbial genomics, metagenomics, and sequencing technology itself. My current work emphasizes analysis of DNA and RNA sequenced with next-generation technology. See my lab home page, salzberg-lab.org, for my scientific publications, research projects, lab members, and other news. I wrote a science column at Forbes from 2011-2025, and moved all my content, comprising over 500 short articles, to Substack in 2025, at https://stevensalzberg.substack.com. All of that content is free, although you can still find it at Forbes (paywalled). My columns and other writing cover broader topics in science and medicine including pseudoscience, the problems of alternative medicine, the anti-vaccination movement, and much more.
