I received my PhD in psychology/cognitive neuroscience from the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences Leipzig / University of Leipzig, Germany, in 2010. I then moved to Melbourne, Australia, and worked at the Florey Neuroscience Institutes, before taking up a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences at the University of Melbourne in 2011. In 2014, I became a Lecturer at MSPS and an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA) fellow. In 2016, I was promoted to Senior Lecturer. I further received my 'Habilitation' (Professor rank) at the University of Cologne, Germany in 2017 and obtained the venia legendi in Psychology. In 2019 I was promoted to Associate Professor, and in 2024 to Full Professor. I was the head of the Decision Neuroscience Laboratory and the Director of the Decision Science Hub at the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences. I am currently a Visiting Professor at New York University Abu Dhabi. My research focuses on the investigation of the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying perceptual, health-related, and voluntary decision-making, as well as decision errors and information-seeking.
