Medical epidemiologist, Doctor in Public Health, focused in spatial epidemiology, rabies, zoonoses, One Health, and prevention and control of human-animal interface diseases. Graduated in Medicine from the National University of Trujillo, in Peru, holds a master's and doctoral degree in public health, both from the State University of New York, University at Albany, NY, USA. Received the Fulbright Fellowship and other scholarships that have allowed him to train in the United States, Israel, and Mexico. Throughout his career, Dr. Recuenco performed leadership roles in epidemiology, health management, health programs, research, health technology development, and other areas at the local, regional, national, and international levels. He has worked at the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. As an international expert on rabies, has authored book chapters and scientific articles on rabies and the spatial epidemiology of zoonoses. He has received numerous national and international awards and recognitions, including the Charles Shepard Award for Excellence in Epidemiological Research from the CDC in Atlanta, USA, and the 2016 MSD-Animal Health World Rabies Day International Award. He has collaborated as an expert or consultant with Doctors Without Borders, the Pan American Health Organization, the World Health Organization, the Peruvian Ministry of Health, and the National Institute of Health. He is currently an associate professor at the San Fernando Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos-UNMSM, Executive Director of Alert and Response at the National Center for Epidemiology - CDC Peru, and is a permanent member of the Peruvian National Academy of Medicine.
