简介
I, Dr. Sami Ullah, am a Pakistani national and was born in January 1980 in Sialkot, Pakistan. After completing my requisite school and freshman education at the renowned institutions, I went for university degree at The University of Punjab, Lahore for undergraduate studies in Chemistry. The degree was followed by an M.Sc. Chemistry degree from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF), Pakistan in 2004. It was a combined coursework and research dissertation-based degree. The title of my master’s research dissertation was “The Synergistic Effect of Thiourea and Surfactants on Corrosion Inhibition of Stainless Steel-316 in Acidic Environments”. I attained a GPA of 3.23/4.00. In line with this, I got admission in M. Phil Chemistry at the same department at UAF. This admission was granted under the scholarship scheme of University Grant Commission (ex-HEC) of Pakistan. It was also a joint coursework and research dissertation-based degree. The said degree was completed in 2006 with a CGPA of 3.30/4.00. The title of my M. Phil dissertation was “Synthesis and Characterization of Melamine Formaldehyde Resin”.
After the completion of advanced studies, I joined Kashmir Lamination Board (Pvt.) Ltd. Chiniot Road Faisalabad, Pakistan as a Quality Control Manager in the year 2005 – 2006. The job provided me with an excellent experience in the production of formica, bakelite and polymer resins and furnished me with good management skills. From 2006-2008, I developed my personal experience in managing college activities and teaching chemistry at my self-owned college. The college was only left to pursue my PhD at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia under Graduate Assistantship Scheme.
My PhD’s research topic “Synthesis, Characterization and Evaluation of Expandable Graphite Based Intumescent Fire-Retardant Coatings for Steel Structures” was a fully-funded degree programme at UTP. It was cutting edge research opening new scopes in development of fire retardant polymer coatings. In this period, my achievements include two gold medals, best presenter, best poster and most innovation award in different editions of SEDEX organised by UTP. In addition, I also won two gold medals from Invention & New Product Exposition Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA and Malaysian Technology Expo. I have been actively participating in ongoing research projects and improving future research plans. One hundred seventeen (104) peer-reviewed journal papers with cumulative ISI web of science impact factor (366.84) and 35 Scopus index journals and many more are under various stages of development. I have also contributed two book chapter in “Flame Retardancy and Protection of Materials: Recent Advances and Current Perspectives” which is currently in press by Springer Ltd. I also filed my PhD research work as a European patent (New Intumescent Fire Retardant Coating IP 2012000315). I was awarded my PhD degree in 2012. To work in the field of Academics, Research & Development, Design and Maintenance. This would test my potential & creativity in Field of Intumescent Fire Retardant Coatings, Corrosion, Frameworks (MOFs) and Zeolites. My area of interest is further broadened to include the processing, thermal degradation and fire retardancy of intumescent fire coatings, corrosion inhibition of structural steel, corrosion by CO2, synthesis, characterization of metal-organic frameworks for CO2 capture.
Currently working as an Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, King Khalid University, Abha, Saudi Arabia.
