Research Profile
Primary research interests in epilepsy including classification & genetics, movement disorders, channelopathies and neurological sleep disorders. During my MD I studied the emerging field of the ion channelopathies and have built a research career and team identifying genetic aetiologies of neurological disorders, defining genotype phenotype relationships and undertaking RCTs of new medications through national and international collaborations. I led the development of the Scottish Paediatric Epilepsy Network and established the first genetic epilepsy testing centre in the UK. Recently our group have published the first prospective whole population epidemiological study of early childhood epilepsies. I also have an interest in developing innovative technologies for epilepsy diagnosis & management – www.vcreate.tv/neuro
