Sally McManus

Sally has worked in health and social research for twenty five years, specialising in psychiatric epidemiology and survey research methods and analysis. She is the director of the interdisciplinary Violence and Society Centre at City, University of London, affiliated with the National Centre for Social Research, and is deputy director of the Violence, Health and Society consortium of ten UK universities. Her work focuses on population trends and the social determinants of inequalities in mental health. She led the 2007 and 2014 Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Surveys, and is supporting with the development of the 2023/4 APMS. She advises on the Mental Health of Children and Young People surveys. Sally writes and presents on health survey methodology, including chapters for social research textbooks published by Taylor and Francis, Ashgate and Sage. She is an advisor to the What Works for Wellbeing Centre. She reviews for Lancet Psychiatry, Lancet Public Health, EClinical Medicine, Gender and Society, Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology, Psychological Medicine, Journal of Affective Disorders, Journal of Traumatic Stress, and British Journal of Psychiatry.
