Sara Mahmoud is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of the Pacific, Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. After completing a bachelors degree in pharmaceutical sciences, she obtained her PharmD at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Colorado. Sara completed her PGY1 pharmacy residency training at Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar where she also practiced as a clinical pharmacist for ten years. Sara completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Academic Pharmacy at the University of Southern California, Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. At UOP, she is responsible for coordinating case based skills, and teaching other didactic courses. She leads and collaborates on several projects that focus on integrating digital health and fundamentals of artificial intelligence in pharmacy education. Sara has been a practicing clinical pharmacist in Cairo and Doha. Her main specialty is in critical care and emergency medicine. She is a board certified critical care pharmacist. Most of her experience to date was at the two main general hospitals at Hamad Medical Corporation, namely Hamad General and Al Wakra Hospitals. She practiced in Cardiac, Medical, Neurology, and Surgical intensive care units. Since 2018, she was the clinical pharmacist for a 150 bed emergency department with the main focus on the critical area in ED (16 bed unit). Sara was a COVID19 ICU clinical pharmacist for one of the tertiary hospitals during the peak of the pandemic. She also worked on a drug shortage project to conserve cisatracurium for the treatment of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Based on her experience, she precepted the Emergency Medicine experiential rotation for the Canadian Accredited PharmD program at Qatar University and the PGY1 pharmacy residency program at Hamad Medical Corporation (ASHP accredited). She was a guest lecturer at Qatar University where she taught acid base disorders. CPD Experience: Since 2016-2022, Sara coordinated the corporate continuous professional development office at Hamad Medical Corporation under the leadership of Dr. Rasha Al Anany. The office oversees twelve hospitals covering different geographical areas and specialties. She was responsible for accreditation compliance and served on the scientific and organizing committees for the Qatar International Pharmacy Conference for the years 2017 and 2019. She also collaborated on initiating several professional development opportunities for pharmacists at Hamad Corporation and across Qatar. Awards: Sara received many awards for her work as a pharmacist and educator. She received two awards for her role in continuous professional development from the Executive Director of Pharmacy in 2019 and Medical Director in 2022. Under the leadership of the corporate office, the team received the Stars of Excellence award for being a leading CPD model in the Middle East from the Minister of Health, Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari. Sara also received an award from the University of Colorado for her outstanding role in expanding pharmacy practice internationally. With Dr. Debra Goff, the team received Editor's choice award from the Journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy for an article published on the role of pharmacists during COVID19. Her contribution was to report on the outstanding role of pharmacists in Qatar in responding to COVID19 including her own initiative on educating pharmacists on COVID19 protocols and emerging evidence in such a dynamic situation. Digital Health/Artificial Intelligence: Sara developed an interest for digital health and integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in pharmacy education. She has described the fundamentals of AI and machine learning in the classroom, and several conferences.
