Ruth W Kimokoti

Dr. Kimokoti is a research scientist with Health and Healing Research, Education and Service, Inc. Previously, she was on the faculty of the Nutrition Department at Simmons University in Boston. She joined Simmons University from Boston University where she taught in the Medical Nutrition Sciences Program of the Graduate Medical Sciences Division at the School of Medicine. Prior to that she was a primary care physician in Kenya. Dr. Kimokoti’s research interests include lifestyle-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs), nutrition, global health, preventive medicine, and integrative medicine. Her current project involves evaluating dietary, lifestyle, and social factors that are associated with cancer survivorship. Dr. Kimokoti similarly collaborates with Millennium Prevention, Inc. on a project that is integrating a web and mobile lifestyle assessment platform called “HealthMain” into clinical practice. HealthMain offers resources that support healthcare providers in providing their patients with personalized preventive interventions and in management of lifestyle-related NCDs. The platform also facilitates patients’ self-management by supporting lifestyle behavior change. She is also part of the Global Burden of Disease Study consortium of global health scientists that is compiling scientific reports on global non-communicable and communicable diseases. In her more recent research, she collaborated on studies examining associations of diet and lifestyle factors with obesity-related outcomes and cardiovascular disease in the Framingham Heart Study. Dr. Kimokoti got her doctoral degree from the University of Nairobi School of Medicine, Kenya, her Master’s degree in Medical Nutrition Sciences from Boston University School of Medicine, and her Master of Public Health degree from Boston University School of Public Health.
