罗斯玛丽·桑

Prof Rosemary Sang is a reputable researcher, mentor and an acclaimed leader of science in Kenya, specialised in arbovirology currently serving as non-tenure researcher at the Centre for Virus Research of the Kenya Medical Research Institute. She rendered exemplary research service to CVR/KEMRU for over 35 years to 2021, supported Walter Reed Project under KEMRI for 8 years to 2018 and collaboratively supported infrastructural development and inception of arbvirus research at the Emerging Infectious Diseases laboratory of ICIPE for 14 years to 2024. She supported the KEMRI graduate school as faculty through teaching MSC virology to MSc and supervising MSc and PhDs; Also supported mentorship at the African Reginal Postgraduate Program funded by DAAD/DFG at ICIPE, supervising MSc, PhD and Postdoctoral Fellows. Her research focused on exploring arbovirus ecology, epidemiology and virus/vector interactions and emergence of arboviruses, responding to arbovirus outbreaks such as Dengue, Yellow Fever, Rift Valley Fever, Chikungunya and through surveillance, discovering previously unknown viruses of potential public and animal health concern. She embraced wider collaboration nationally, regionally and internationally bringing promoted a One Health approach to research, ensuring wholistic understanding arbovirus transmission with. Her research output has contributed significantly to formulation for arbovirus disease intervention policy nationally. Through her research, she has earned recognition for her contribution to science, including election as fellow of the African Academy of Science in 2015, Honoured by ICEID Leaders Program, for significant improvement in identification, prevention, and control of emerging infectious diseases, 2012.
