Rosie has worked for >30 years in a resource-limited setting on the Thailand-Myanmar border contributing to optimizing treatment of malaria and health care in pregnancy and childbirth and early childhood. These improvements do not happen by research alone but by investment in helping healthcare workers learn. Local healthcare providers are amazing when they are provided with the right opportunities for learning. Rosie remains adamant that credit belongs to the incredible example set by Karen and Burmese health workers and community workers who have lifted their community forwards despite barriers and constraints. Research within the same context of providing quality humanitarian health care has permitted a strong environment for reflection of problems concerning the population as well as an avenue to finding solutions. The research finding frequently have broader significance. Rose has supervised Masters, PhD and DPhil students across multiple domains at SMRU. Rose is indebted to her family and friends, colleagues, and mentors.
