Ronell R. Klopper

Employed in the Foundational Biodiversity Sciences Division of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), Pretoria as Plant Taxonomist and South African National Plant Checklist Coordinator. Curates Asphodelaceae, Lycopodiophyta and Pteridophyta collections of the National Herbarium (PRE). Extraordinary lecturer at the Department of Plant & Soil Sciences, University of Pretoria. Managed the Aloes of the World Project. Coordinated SANBI’s involvement in the African Plant Checklist & Database in collaboration with CJB Genéva, Switzerland, and was awarded the Allen Dyer Prize for this in 2005. Graduated from the University of Pretoria (PhD in Plant Taxonomy, 2015), where several awards were received. Research interests are in taxonomy, nomenclature and floristics of Asphodelaceae (especially Alooideae) and southern African Lycopodiophyta and Pteridophyta. Served on the National Committee of the Fern Society of Southern Africa as Editor (2000-2010). Currently serves on the World Flora Online Taxonomic Working Group; COL Species List Governance Working Group; IAPT Nomenclature Committee for Vascular Plants; Editorial Committee of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (Madrid Code); Editorial Board of Flowering Plants of Africa; as Associate Editor: Nomenclatural Review Board for African Biodiversity & Conservation; Associate Editor for Novon; Section Editor: African Flora for Phytotaxa; and Nomenclature Specialist to the CITES Plants Committee.
