罗伯托·莱恩斯

Dr. Roberto Lanes graduated from medical school from the Universidad Central de Venezuela in 1974. He completed his pediatric residency at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York city and a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore under the supervision of Dr. Claude Migeon. He then joined the pediatric endocrinology division of the North Shore University Hospital, a teaching hospital of Cornell Medical Center, where he was assistant professor of pediatrics. In 1984 Roberto returned to Venezuela, where he worked as an attending at the Hospital Central “Dr. Carlos Arvelo” in Caracas, a teaching hospital of the Universidad Central of Venezuela. He also began a private practice at the Hospital de Clinicas Caracas. Over the years Dr. Lanes has taught both pediatric residents and endocrine fellows and has actively pursued his interest in clinical research, particularly in the areas of growth, growth hormone deficiency and pubertal disorders and has more recently focused on metabolic abnormalities in GHD, obesity and diabetes and in the genetics of GHD and Turner syndrome. This has lead to the publication of 118 manuscripts in peer reviewed journals, to the presentation of 77 abstracts at international meetings and to the publication of 17 chapters in his area of interest. Dr. Lanes has been invited to lecture extensively in Venezuela and internationally. He has been secretary and president of the Venezuelan Endocrine Society, member of the international scientific committee and of the statutory committee of the Latin American Pediatric Endocrine Society (SLEP) and is a member of several major societies in the US (Endocrine Society, Pediatric Endocrine Society). He has been/is a member of the editorial boards of the International Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology (IJPE), the Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism (JPEM), Pediatric Endocrine Reviews (PER), Frontiers in Endocrinology and of Growth, Genetics and Hormones (G,G&H) and is a reviewer for a number of international journals in the field of endocrinology and pediatrics. Dr. Lanes was asked to give the Cesar Bergada Lecture, the most prestigious SLEP award, in recognition of excellence, leadership and an outstanding overall contribution to the field of Paediatric Endocrinology at the Latinoamerican Pediatric Endocrine Society 2012 meeting in Montevideo, Uruguay and was designated Member Emeritus of the Sociedad Latinoamerica de Endocrinologia Pediatrica (SLEP) on 11/2019 and Honorary President (Eponym) of the XXI Venezuelan Endocrine Society meeting on September 2020 in Caracas.
