Professor Robert Zougmoré (Director of Research under the CAMES cadre) is currently working with the Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT as Principal Scientist, leading the West Africa cluster of AICCRA (Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa) and also being the AICCRA Global Director. Agronomist and soil scientist with a PhD in Production Ecology & Resources Conservation from the University of Wageningen, The Netherlands, his areas of expertise include Agronomy and soil science, Land degradation and development, Climate change adaptation & mitigation, Integrated Water and Nutrient Management, Agroecology, Climate-smart policies and institutions. A visionary leader with over 35 years’ experiences (18 at Senior Management at the International level) in the fields of climate change, biodiversity, agriculture, forest ecosystems management, and net zero solutions, and conducted activities impacting more than 30 countries in Africa. A seasoned professional and a thought leader with a track record of building strong partnerships and facilitating the development of country programs and programmatic initiatives that bring together multiple financial institutions to address complex climate challenges. A Senior Manager and Principal Investigator of multimillion dollar projects with a passion for climate change, a proven track record of impactful leadership, and the ability to inspire and mobilize diverse institutional stakeholders. A team leader of diverse teams of experts with the record of raising young professionals and leading strategic programming actions in harnessing climate science, diplomacy and agroecological innovations to improving climate finance access to drive development priorities for transformative agriculture and food security at the country, and regional levels. An originator and author of GCF proposals for multiple countries. A strong operation professional, a bilingual (English and French) and an effective communicator with more than 100 scientific publications, training manuals and policy-related documents. Awardee of the Academic Palms medal of Burkina Faso for his outstanding achievement in action-research, and recipient of the 2019 International Derek Tribe Award in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the application of research in agriculture or natural resource management in developing countries. Board member of the African Conservation Tillage Network (ACT), Chair of the Scientific & Technical Committee of the West Africa Food System Resilience Program, component 1 led by CILSS/AGRHYMET, member of the the AIM for Scale Technical Panel on Digital Advisory Services for Agriculture. Robert has been Secretary General of the Africa Soil Science Society and led the organization of two International Conferences (2007 and 2009).
