Ricardo Uauy

Ricardo Uauy, MD, PhD, is board certified in pediatrics, neonatology, and perinatology from Harvard and Yale, and obtained his PhD in nutritional biochemistry and metabolism, and international nutrition from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prof Uauy is a professor of public health nutrition at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a professor in nutrition at the Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology (INTA) University of Chile and of Pediatrics at the Department of Pediatrics Catholic University of Chile. Prof Uauy has been a leader throughout his career in international nutrition and has served as Director of INTA in Chile, Advisor to several United Nations agencies including the World Health Organization (WHO) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Chairman of the United Nations ACC/SCN Advisory Group in Nutrition, and President of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS). Most recently he chaired the FAO Expert Consultation and edited the Fats and Fatty Acids in Human Nutrition 2011. He received the National Applied Science Prize awarded by the Chilean Government in 2012 . 2012 Edna and Robert Langholz International Nutrition Award (Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics USA). 2014 “ HONORIS CAUSA” doctorate University of Granada, Granada Spain Prof Uauy is one of the most distinguished scientists in international nutrition today. His interest areas span the age spectrum from infants to the elderly, and the social spectrum from poverty to affluence, as well as essential fatty acid metabolism and obesity prevention with a life-course perspective. To date, Prof Uauy has edited/co-edited 8 books and published over 500 original scientific publications.
