简介

Dr. Apak received B.S./M.Sc. degrees in chemical engineering (Istanbul Univ., 1976); obtained postgraduate diploma in marine pollution (Liverpool Univ., 1981); obtained Ph.D. (1982), became full professor (1993) of analytical chemistry in İstanbul Univ. He has been working in İstanbul University (now İstanbul University-Cerrahpaşa: IUC) as a full professor for the last 31 years. He served as the faculty dean in Istanbul University in the School of Engineering (1996-99) and director of the Institute of Marine Sciences (2007-2015). In the same university, he directed the Division of Analytical Chemistry between 1990-2020, and the Center of Food Antioxidants between 2010-2020. He is currently working on the basis of a research and teaching contract jointly supplied by the Board of Higher Education (YOK) and IUC Rectorate. He is the editorial board member of Talanta-Elsevier (2004-…), J. Anal. Chem.-Springer (2018-…), Analy. Lett. (2020- …). He is currently the guest editor of a special issue of Talanta on oxidants and antioxidants. He represents Turkey in the Analytical Chemistry Division (Division V) of IUPAC. Dr. Apak is the author of 338 peer-reviewed research articles (published in SCI journals), 19 book chapters and reviews, three textbooks (in Turkish), one textbook on antioxidant analysis (Wiley, 2018). He has written 9 articles in the highest impact journal of experimental analytical sciences (‘Analytical Chemistry’ of ACS), 1 in ACS Sensors, and 1 in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces with very high impact factors. He has a citation number around 23,700 in Google Academic with an h-index of 70 (around 15,900 citations in WoS with h=59). He is the owner of an US patent (2014) on CUPRAC method of antioxidant research. He has been scientifically active for the last 5 years, including the covid-19 period, when he kept his labs open (h=46 with 12,000 citations since 2019). Dr. Apak has been a principal member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA) since 2012. He is the recipient of the highest prestigious science award in Turkey, TUBITAK (Turkish Scientific & Technical Research Council) Science Award in 2017; he was elected as a Fellow Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) in July, 2018. Dr. Apak is the inventor of the CUPRAC method of antioxidant capacity determination (2004), the two leading articles of which have retrieved around 4900 citations. He has manufactured the first Turkish field test kit of multi-explosive detection. He has conducted pioneering research work in the fields of analytical chemistry, food chemistry, environmental chemistry and biochemistry, where he has devised novel analytical methods for the determination of food antioxidants, biochemically important oxidizing agents (including ROS/RNS) and biological antioxidants, energetic materials, explosives, and environmental contaminants. He is among the top 2% of the world's most influential scientists, ranked by Stanford University, on a life-long career basis.
