Ralf Zimmermann

Prof. Dr. Ralf Zimmermann (chemist, male) is full professor of Analytical Chemistry (chair) at the University of Rostock and head of the department “Comprehensive Molecular Analytics” at the Helmholtz Centre Munich (in total > 50 co-workers). He is particularly interested in the development and application of high-end mass spectrometric (MS) and chromatographic methods and technologies for characterization of ambient aerosols and process gases. This includes laser photo ionisation-MS, single particle-MS and ultra-high mass resolution-MS approaches. In the last decade he additionally is focusing on biological and toxicological approaches, targeting health effects of ambient particular matter and air pollution. He is currently spokesperson of the Helmholtz International Laboratory “aeroHEALTH” (www.aerohealth.eu), which is targeting the health effects of atmospherically aged aerosols.
