Prof. Rajaâ Cherkaoui El Moursli received her PhD in Nuclear Physics at the University Joseph Fourier in Grenoble, France. Early 1982, she joined the Faculty of Sciences, University Mohammed V, Rabat. In 1996 she was serving as a head of the Laboratory of Nuclear Physics (LNP). Such, a great achievement led her to develop several projects related to nuclear applications.
She was part of the official Morocco's forerunners participants in the international ATLAS collaboration at CERN in Geneva in 1996.
Prof. Cherkaoui became Vice-President for Research, Innovation, Cooperation and Partnership Mohammed V University from 2013 to 2017.
In 2014, she had been overseeing a new competition program as president of the national organizing committee of the French speaking contest in Morocco called "My thesis in 180 seconds”.
In 2015, Prof. Cherkaoui received L’Oréal-UNESCO award for “Women in Science” as a laureate representing Africa and the Arab States.
Besides that, she also assigned as resident member at the Hassan II Academy of Sciences and Technology in Morocco. Simultaneously she was an active Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS). The same year, she became a member of the jury for the L'Oréal-UNESCO regional grants for women and science in the Maghreb. She was also elected woman of the year in Morocco by the magazine "Illi Des Libertés 2015".
From 2015 to 2019 she was assigned as a Member of the ICSU Regional Committee for Africa.
In 2016, the Inter-Academy Partnership for Research (IPA-R) appointed her as a member of IAP-Research's triennial project entitled "Leveraging Science, Engineering and Medicine to Meet the Challenges of Africa". The same year, she was appointed member of the Board of Directors of the Moroccan Agency for Safety and Nuclear Safety and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Foundation "Women for Africa".
She has won the first prize for her most publishes in science and technology at "2nd day of scientific research and innovation of Mohammed V University", 2017. Professor Cherkaoui was honoured in the same year for her outstanding contribution and achievements in the field of science and technology in the Islamic world by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OCI). On July 19, 2017, at the First Global Challenge in Washington, a prize with three gold, silver and bronze medals were named "Rajaâ Cherkaoui El Moursli Award for its courageous achievements" awarded to three winning teams. She was cited by BBC News, 2017, 100 Women and by the Marrakech Women's Museum.
In 2018, she was assigned as a member of the International Awards Jury in the Physical Sciences for the L'Oréal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science. The same year, she was appointed a member of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the advancement of science in developing countries and of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World. In this year, she has been appointed a Board Member of the National Center for Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology (Morocco).
In 2019, she was elected Vice-President for Policy Review and Administration, Network of African Science Academies (NASAC).
Throughout her career, she has been a member of various selection committees of several managers in national organizations and institutions (General Secretary of CNESTEN, heads of division at CNRST, Deans, etc.) and member of several committees within the university and also at national and international level
All through the years, she has supervised 22 doctoral theses and continuously supervising three doctoral students at the moment. She has been a rapporteur and a jury member of 60 thesis. She also is a co-author of more than 700 indexed scientific publications. She has been a frequent guest speaker on numerous international seminars giving more than 100 presentations at nuclear physics, high Energy Physics and women in Science conferences.
She has participated in several cultural and professional associations, including the presidency of the Moroccan Radiation Protection Association (AMR) and the vice-president of AIGAM (Association of Engineering Engineers Atomic of Morocco).
