Full Professor of Transportation at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Minho. Director of the Research Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC), from 2009 to 2010, and since 2013. Researcher on Highway Engineering, Road Management Systems, Road Pavements Design, Asphalt Pavement Materials, Road Surface Characteristics, Road Safety and Urban Mobility. Responsible of several funded research projects, at national and international level. Project Coordinator of the Portuguese Pavement Management System for the National Portuguese Road Adminstration, from 1988 to 1995. Author of more than two hundred and forty papers in international and national journals and in international conferences. Chair of international and national Conferences on Pavements and Transportation Infrastructures. Member of Editorial Board of four international journals.
