I am a health data scientist and epidemiologist with expertise in cancer epidemiology, clinical data science, and real-world health data analysis. I completed my PhD in Genetic Epidemiology at the University of South Australia in 2023, where my research focused on the role of adiposity and metabolic factors in cancer risk and outcomes using large-scale population and genetic datasets.
My work integrates epidemiological methods with advanced analytics, including machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and statistical modelling. I have led and contributed to projects involving linked health data, clinical registries, and free-text clinical reports, with a particular focus on colorectal cancer screening, prognosis, and health service optimisation. Recently, I have been developing NLP pipelines to extract structured information from colonoscopy and pathology reports, enabling scalable, real-world evaluation of surveillance and clinical decision-making.
I have a multidisciplinary academic background, including a Bachelor of Pharmacy, Master of Public Health (Epidemiology), Master of Business Administration, and a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from Jimma University. My professional experience spans academia, healthcare, and industry, including roles in teaching, digital health coordination, and pharmaceutical management.
Currently, my research focuses on applying data-driven approaches to improve cancer prevention, early detection, and outcomes, with an emphasis on translating complex health data into actionable insights for clinical and public health practice. I am particularly interested in health equity, scalable digital health solutions, and the use of AI in clinical epidemiology.
I actively collaborate across disciplines and welcome opportunities for research partnerships, grant development, and translational projects in health data science and epidemiology.
