简介

I am an experienced Public Health Physician and fortunate to be a well-respected academic leader within the domain of public health, which extends from our local community to impacting National and International health policies. I have been working in the areas of public health research and teaching for more than 20 years, both in Australian and international settings. I have an excellent track record of providing leadership in completing different research projects successfully focusing on different aspects of public health, securing funding, producing high quality research publications, supervising higher degree research students, assisting in capacity building, and providing supportive supervision to the early/mid-career researchers and collaborating successfully with experienced researchers. My research track record includes work on tobacco, non-communicable diseases, global burden of diseases, nursing, health promotion, gender differences in health outcomes, outbreak investigations, mental health, Indigenous health, health and wellbeing of disadvantaged, rural and multicultural population. I am particularly interested in tobacco control at the national and global levels. I have published over 200 research papers in multidisciplinary high-quality journals with more than 120,000 citations, which ranked me amongst the world’s top 2% scientists for the last subsequent five years (2020-24); ranking done by Elsevier BV and Stanford University, USA. I have contributed to generating more than $13 million in funding in my professional career. I have wide research collaboration internationally and successfully led several multi-country research projects with significant outputs. I am also actively engaged with multicultural communities to improve their health and well-being. I have been contributing to leadership in learning and teaching across the range of requisite capacities during the past 20 years, both in Australia and internationally at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Utilising my experience of teaching at different Australian universities, I took the formal lead in developing a suite of postgraduate public health courses and established the Discipline of Public Health at FedUni. I enjoy the supervision of higher degree research students at both Masters and Doctorate levels, where I can be considered as an ‘active’ more than a ‘directive’ supervisor for students. Based on my research skills and expertise, I am quite often sought out as a supervisor, specifically by international students. My experience also includes working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, including Government and non-government organizations, academics, community leaders and the general public. I have experience working at La Trobe University, Deakin University, Australian Catholic University (ACU) and the University of Adelaide in Australia. I have successfully led several multi-country research projects, which includes projects in Australia, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UAE and UK. Besides my professional role, I am also involved in several professional and community organizations as a volunteer.
