Prof. Mohamed Mahmoud El-Shazly is a Professor of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain-Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. He graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain-Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, with a general grade excellent with honors in 2000. Following graduation, he pursued his postgraduate studies as a teaching and research assistant at the Department of Pharmacognosy at the same institute. After obtaining his postgraduate diploma, he traveled to Germany (Jacobs University Bremen, Bremen, Germany) to pursue his master's and Ph.D. studies. In 2006, he received his master’s degree in nanomolecular science, and he was offered a position at the same institute to complete his Ph.D. focusing on the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates and natural products. In 2009, he received his Ph.D. and went back to Egypt to join his home institute as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain-Shams University. In 2011, he received an offer to work at the Graduate Institute of Natural Products, Kaohsiung Medical University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He spent there 2.5 years working as a postdoctoral fellow researching in different fields including natural product isolation, structural elucidation, and determination of their biological activity. This postdoctoral experience assisted him to polish his knowledge and experience by guiding master and Ph.D. students in their research. In 2015, he was promoted to associate professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain-Shams University. In 2017, he joined the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biotechnology, at the German University in Cairo. In 2021, he was promoted to a full professor of pharmacognosy. In 2022, he returned back to his home institute, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain-Shams University, Cairo, Egypt.
