Matty Demont is an agrifood systems scientist with twenty years of international experience across Europe, Africa and Asia, specializing in food systems transformation centered on rice, a staple crop fundamental to global food security. His career has been shaped by deep country‑level engagement, including six years living in a fishermen’s village in Africa during the 2007–2008 food price crisis and more than a decade in Asia working on nutrition‑sensitive food systems. A recognized systems thinker and innovator, Matty developed the Gastronomic Systems Research (GSR) framework to integrate cultural and behavioral dimensions into food systems analysis. He has led major digital innovations such as the Investment Game App (IGA), the Food Choice App (FCA), and the Global Market Intelligence Platform (GloMIP). His behavioral research program spans 18 countries and 11,000 food system stakeholders, and he is a laureate of the Malassis and Schultz Award. Matty has held multiple leadership roles, including Interim Deputy Director of the CGIAR Better Diets and Nutrition Program (US$35M), and has mobilized US$219M in research funding. His expertise covers impact assessment, modeling, market intelligence, nutrition, climate resilience, and sustainability. Trilingual and deeply committed to equity and inclusion, he brings evidence‑based, results‑focused leadership to global agrifood systems transformation.
