简介

Dr. Matteo Lorenzini has earned in 2004 a master degree in physics at the Università degli Studi di Firenze (Italy) with a thesis devoted to the study of future suspensions for the mirrors of the Virgo gravitational waves detector. Subsequently he obtained a PhD degree in 2008 at the University of Florence, with the thesis "Suspension thermal noise issues for advanced GW interferometric detectors", dedicated to the R&D activity on thermal noise reduction for the next generations of GW interferometric detectors. The thesis was awarded the 2007 GWIC Thesis Prize honorable mention and the 2008 INFN Bruno Rossi Prize honorable mention. After the PhD, he held several postdoctoral positions; from 2008 to 2011, at the Italian Institute for the Nuclear Physics, involved in the LISA Laser Interferometer Space Antenna project and in the main activities on thermal noise reduction for Virgo. During this period, he took part in the preparation of the Einstein Telescope Design Study. Hence, he moved to UTB at Borwnsville (TX) taking part in the LIGO collaboration and working in the field of characterization of low thermal noise suspensions for GW detector mirrors. From 2012 to 2014 he was enrolled as Postdoc Fellow at the Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata, where he entered in the field of adaptive optics, working at the thermal compensation system for the Virgo GW detector. Within the same research field he earned in 2014 a three years postdoc position at the Gran Sasso Science Institute in L'Aquila, fromerly a INFN institute, now an independent University. Since 2011, Matteo is involved as assistant lecturer in various physics classes, at the UTB and Univeristà di Tor Vergata, both in basic physics (mechanics, thermology, elctromagnetism and waves) ad advanced topics (thermal noise). He is also active in the oureach, offering public lectures on the detection of gravitational waves and participating in dissemination at various levels.
