Louise Burke moved to a full-time role as Chair of Sports Nutrition at Mary MacKillop Institute for Health Research at the Australian Catholic University in July 2020 after a 30 year career as Head of Sports Nutrition (1990-2018) then Chair of Nutrition Strategy (2018-2020) at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. Professor Burke’s research interests lie in identifying nutrition-related strategies to enhance the health and performance of athletes, particularly in high performance/elite sport. These strategies include optimising fuel availability and use during competition, supporting effective training, making use of evidence-based supplements, and achieving adequate energy availability. She has enjoyed 45 years of working with high performance athletes and coaches to develop and implement such strategies into practice, including acting as a Team Dietitian for Australia's Olympic Teams at 6 Summer Olympic Games (1996-2012, 2020) Accolades and awards: - Medal of the Order of Australia. For services to sports nutrition, as a dietitian and through academic, research and administrative roles. (2009) - American College of Sports Medicine, Citation Award.
