Dr. Long-Qing Chen is Donald W. Hamer Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics, and Professor of Mathematics at the Pennsylvania State University, USA. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief for npj Computational Materials by Nature Portfolio and director of DOE Computational Mesoscale Materials Science Center. He received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, M.S. from Stony Brook University, and B.S. from Zhejiang University. He joined the faculty at Penn State in 1992 and has been teaching thermodynamics of materials for the past 30 years. He has published over 900 papers on the thermodynamics and kinetics of solid-state phase transformations as well as computational microstructure model development and applications for structural metallic alloys, functional oxide thin films, energy materials, and quantum materials. He is a Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher since 2018. His research awards include the Materials Research Society (MRS) Materials Theory Award, Guggenheim Fellowship, Humboldt Research Award, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) John Bardeen Award, American Ceramic Society (ACerS) Ross Coffin Purdy Award, TMS Cyril Stanley Smith Award, the UK’s Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) Charles Hatchett Award, TMS William Hume-Rothery Award, The American Society of Metals (ASM) International Silver Medal, TMS Functional Materials Division (FMD) Distinguished Scientist/Engineer Award, and IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, Frequency Control Society (IEEE-UFFC-S) Distinguished Lecture Award, and IEEE-UFFC Ferroelectrics Recognition Award. He is a Fellow of TMS, MRS, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), American Physical Society (APS), ASM, and ACerS, a Foreign Member of Academy of Europe (Academia of Europaea, MAE), and a member of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE).
