Lillian Barros (LB) is a Principal Researcher at the Mountain Research Center (CIMO) of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB), in which she is also vice-coordinator of CIMO and vice-director of the Associate Laboratory for Sustainability and Technology in Mountains Regions (SusTEC). My research targets are mainly in the identification, separation and recovery of functional molecules from different natural products, as well as their implementation as ingredients and bioactive compounds in food, with an ultimate goal to extract high added-value molecules and re-use them in the food chain (from agriculture to the consumer). I have published more than 800 scientific documents, including research articles, reviews and editorials, within the highest impact factor journals in the Food Science and Technology field (90 h-index, SCOPUS Jan 2025). My scientific production has been very relevant and has reached top positions in the world rankings (Highly Cited Researcher since 2016, Clarivate). I have edited of 5 books (Wiley-Blackwell, Frontiers in Science, Springer, Bentham and Elsevier) and have written several book chapters. I have registered 14 patents. I am associate editor for Food & Function and editorial board member of Molecules, Nutrition and Food Science Technology, and Journal of Composition and have a permanent special issue in Antioxidants and Foods. At the moment, I am also guest editor of several special issues and have concluded several others. I have international collaborations and I am PI and/or member of several FINANCED RESEARCH PROJECTS with different typologies (last 5 years): 6 FCT R&D projects; 3 FCT Bilateral cooperation projects (Serbia, Brazil and Tunisia); 14 Technology transfer projects; 4 Mobilizer projects; and 14 international projects – 5 PRIMA, 2 BBI, and 5 POCTEP and 1 SUDOE (Interreg). My scientific work has raised interest and has led to the SUPERVISION of Post-doc (9 concluded, 3 ongoing), PhD (13 concluded and 20 ongoing), Master (63 concluded and 3 ongoing) and Bachelor (10 concluded) students, as also more then 70 international researchers, pos-doc and PhD students visitors in CIMO. I have also performed several scientific international research visits that have allowed to receive new knowledge and scientific growth. I have been member of organizing committees of scientific conferences, presented invited lectures in international and national conferences, and have >1200 oral/poster communications, including papers in conference proceedings. I have been member of PhD and Master defenses and I also have teaching experience. I have served as an international expert evaluator for ArimNet2 program (2017 and 2019 - re-evaluation) proposals, in the Polish Science Agency – National Science Center (since 2018); European Science Foundation, and the USDA scientific Review Panel. I have assisted as an invited reviewer (>300 articles, >35 Journals), being recognized as Top Reviewer since 2016 in Food & Function, and since 2017 as an Outstanding Reviewer for several Elsevier Journals. Finally, I have reviewed more several international book proposals and PhD thesis “Doctor Europeus”.
