K. Cranmer

Kyle Cranmer is a Professor of Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with courtesy appointments in Computer Science and Statistics. He is holds the David R Anderson chair and is the Director of the Data Science Institute at the UW-Madison. Previously he was a professor of Physics and Data Science at New York University. His background is in experimental particle physicists, where he has worked on the Large Hadron Collider, based in Geneva, Switzerland. Professor Cranmer obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2005 and his B.A. in Mathematics and Physics from Rice University. In 2007, he was awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Science and Engineering from President George W. Bush via the Department of Energy's Office of Science, in 2009 he was awarded the National Science Foundation's Career Award, and in 2021 he became a fellow of the American Physical Society. Professor Cranmer developed a framework that enables collaborative statistical modeling, which was used extensively for the discovery of the Higgs boson in July, 2012.
