Jun Chen

Dr. Jun Chen is the Richard King Mellon Endowed Professor of Neurology and Pharmacology and Director of the Pittsburgh Institute of Brain Disorders & Recovery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Chen’s laboratory focuses on preclinical and translational neuroscience research, with emphasis on 1) the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neuronal degeneration in models of cerebral ischemia, traumatic brain injury, and Parkinson’s disease; 2) the role and mechanism of immunological responses in ischemic or traumatic brain injury and neurological recovery, and Parkinson's disease, and 3) the role and mechanism of white matter injury and repair after stroke or traumatic brain injury. Dr. Chen has published 220+ peer-reviewed papers with 28,000+ citations and has an h-index of 93. He has won numerous research awards, including the American Heart Association Established Investigator Award in 2000, the VA Senior Research Career Scientist Award in 2016, and the Thomas Willis Research Award from the American Heart Association in 2018. He is the current Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism. He has also served as an associate editor, handling editor, or editorial board member on ten other journals, including the Journal of Clinical Investigation, Journal of Neuroscience, Neurobiology of Disease, and CNS Neuroscience & Therapeutics. He has served the scientific community in various capacities. He was a Chair of the American Heart Association Brain Committee-2, a member of various NIH study sections, the Treasurer and board director of the International Society of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism, and organizer or co-organizer of numerous international conferences, including the Brain 2013 in Shanghai.
