Jukka-Pekka Mecklin (born 29 September 1952) is a Finnish physician and professor of gastroenterology surgery at the University of Jyväskylä, a doctor of medicine and docent. Mecklin founded a group of hereditary bowel cancer (Finnish Lynch research register LSRFi) 1982. Lynch syndrome has been found in more than 320 families , tested gene carriers are approximately 1700 in Finland. Jukka-Pekka Mecklin received in 2004 the Nordic and Finnish company's medical prize together with Heikki J. Järvisen, in 2009 the Niilo Voipio Prize for Cancer organizations, in 2015 he was awarded the Max Siurala Prize and in 2018 he was awarded Konrad ReijoWaara Prize. The doctoral thesis of Mecklin in 1987 is said to have been the starting-point of the study of hereditary colon cancer. With his material, the Finnish-American research group discovered 1993 the first hereditary gene to be predominant in heritable colon cancer.
