Juhana Jaafar

Professor Ts. Dr. Juhana Jaafar, a distinguished scientist in energy and chemical engineering. With a PhD in Gas Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, her early research focused on membrane technology for fuel cells technology. Currently she is a Professor in the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She is also the Director of Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC), a Higher Institute Centre of Excellent (HICOE). Her extensive publication record from 500 papers in WOS indexed journals attests to her expertise in fuel cells including direct methanol fuel cell and hydrogen fuel cell, and water reclamation using membrane technology. This contributes to her publication-citation metrics of 62 H-index and more than 14,000 citations. Professor Ts. Dr. Juhana holds pivotal editorial roles as Chief editor of Membrane Formation and Structure a specialty section of Journal Frontiers in Membrane Science and Technology. Her international collaborations, such as, the European Union Grant and Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) revolve around employing innovative materials for sustainable environmental remediation. She became the alumni of AUN-SEED/Net owing to her significant research initiatives through the award and funding such as the Regional Conference Grant, AUNSEED Alumni Mobility Grant, scholarship for Short-term Research Program in Japan, Short-term visit program in ASEAN country and Collaborative Education Program. The Top Research Scientists Malaysia 2023 (TRSM 2023) is among the ultimate recognitions that she has received recently. She also received a recognition as Tokoh Penyelidik UTM 2024 and Author in Indexed Journal Award for seven years in a row since 2017 at the Citra Karisma UTM. In addition, she also been listed as the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Standford University for Single Year Citation Impact consecutively since 2019. 62 postgraduate students (33 PhD, 29 Masters) have been graduated under her supervision since 2012. She has also supervised about 15 of internship students from Malaysia, Russia, Indonesia, Japan, India and Thailand. Prof. Ts. Dr. Juhana has received several recognitions at National and International level. Recently, she has been rewarded the Regional Conference Grant 2020 from AUNSEED-Net for organizing the Regional Congress of Membrane Technology 2020 & Regional Conference on Environmental Engineering 2020 (RCOM2020&RCENVE2020) in which she was the Chairman of the conference. She also received the AUNSEED Alumni Mobility Grant 2020 from AUNSEED-Net. She received some outstanding awards for her innovative R&D such as the Grand Prize Award at Seoul International Invention Fair 2019, The Most Distinguished Award at PECIPTA2013, and Best Award in British Invention Show 2012. In 2017, she obtained the fellowship from Meiji University, Japan under the Invited Scholar International Exchange Program. She also received a scholarship from AUNSEED-Net for Short-term Research Program in Japan and Short-term visit program in ASEAN country. She has recently appointed as the Associate of Academy of Sciences Malaysia and also the Affiliate Member of Young Scientist Network-Academy Science Malaysia (YSN-ASM). She holds the co-secretary position in MyMembrane Society since 2017. She has also been listed in Who’s Who in the World for the 33rd Edition 2016.
