Dr. Kimani has a Medical Degree from the University of Nairobi and a Masters of Public Health (Epidemiology) from the University of Washington, Seattle. He is currently the Clinical Research Director at the University of Manitoba/ University of Nairobi field office in Kenya (Partners for Health and Development in Africa- PHDA), implementing HIV programming/ research activities in collaboration with researchers from the University of Nairobi etc. His research interests are vast and includes the epidemiology and immunobiology of STIs among sex workers (SW) and Gay Bisexual Men who have sex with men (GBMSM), mechanisms of HIV resistance, Mental health , reproductive health, TB control, Malaria in pregnancy, Bioethics and novel HIV prevention strategies (e.g. treatment as prevention and PrEP. Dr. Kimani is also the program Co-Director/ Manager, of the CDC funded “Increasing Access to Quality Comprehensive HIV Prevention Services for key Populations (KPs) in Nairobi County, Kenya”. He currently leads the Program/Research team responsible for mobilization, demand creation, patient care and treatment for 30000 SW and 2500 MSM at the SWOP clinical facilities. His clinical, program management, community engagement, experience with epidemiological studies and other study designs contributes to the success of various/ assorted grant applications.
