Dr. Jorge H. Medina is a physician who graduated with Honors from the School of Medicine at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). He later received the Faculty Award for the best doctoral thesis in 1982. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to research in Neuroscience, gaining particular recognition for his theories on the formation, expression, and persistence of memory. He has received numerous awards and distinctions, including: the Bernardo Houssay Award; the King Baudouin Award (Sweden); Distinguished Lecturer in Neuroscience at the University of New Orleans; a Guggenheim Fellowship (USA); member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences; member of the Latin American Academy of Sciences; the Gold Medal of the Presidency of the Nation (Argentina); member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences; the Konex Award; the Ineco Award (2014); the Argentinian Neuroscience Society Gold Medal (E. De Robertis Lectures in 2006 and R. Caputto Lectures in 2016); and the Bunge y Born Foundation Award (2020) for Experimental Neurosciences. He is the author of more than 355 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals, with over 20,000 citations and an H-index of 78 (including 17 papers and 5,200 citations in the last five years). He is also co-author of three patents. He has had a distinguished career in university teaching (former Director of the Department of Physiology at UBA and Professor at Favaloro University), in mentoring young scientists (advisor/mentor of 24 doctoral theses), and in academic administration (Secretary of Science and Technology at UBA and former President of UBATEC). He is currently a researcher at the Technological Institute of Buenos Aires (ITBA) and served as a Senior Researcher at CONICET from 2000 until the end of 2025.
