John Provis is Group Leader (Cement Systems) in the Laboratory for Waste Management, Paul Scherrer Institut, Switzerland. He was from 2012-2023 the Professor of Cement Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Sheffield, UK. He received his PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Melbourne, Australia, in 2006. His key research focus is on innovative cements for use in applications including nuclear waste immobilisation, construction, and infrastructure. He is a Fellow of RILEM, IoM3, ICT and ACerS, was awarded the 2013 RILEM Robert L'Hermite Medal, was presented with an honorary doctorate (Dr.h.c.) from Hasselt University, Belgium in 2015, and is a Visiting Professor at the University of Sheffield. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of the RILEM flagship journal Materials and Structures, Associate Editor of Cement & Concrete Research, a Specialty Chief Editor for Frontiers in Materials, and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of RILEM Technical Letters.
