Prof. Dr. med. Dr. phil. Johannes Ring

After finishing medical school at Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) Munich Johannes Ring started research in immunology and allergy for 5 years at the Institute for Surgical Research LMU, then 2 years in Scripps La Jolla USA), before he entered dermatology in LMU. For almost 25 years he was director and chairman of a University Dept of Dermatology and Allergology, first in Hamburg, then at TUM in Munich.
His clinical and research focus is inflammatory skin diseases, especially atopic eczema, food and drug allergy and anaphylaxis. Furthermore he was involved in a number of epidemiological studies to environmental influences in allergy together with Heidrun Behrendt.
In 10 years as dean of studies he shaped the medical curriculum of TUM. He is devoted to education and has been co-founder of patient education programs like „eczema school“ and „anaphylaxis school“ in Germany. From 2009 to 2014 he was director within the Christine Kühne-Center for Allergy Research and Education (CK-CARE) and is still active in education.
Johannes Ring published > 600 originals and 25 books (5 as author). He organized many national and international congresses and symposia, eg the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) congress 2001 in Munich with 6000 and the World Allergy Congress (WAC) in 2005 with 7000 participants.
He has been president of some scientific societies, eg German Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology (DGAKI), European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR), European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV), International Society of Atopic Dermatitis (ISAD) and Collegium Internationale Allergologicum (CIA). At present he is chief-editor of the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (JEADV with IF 9.2).
He received some awards, eg the State medal for Environment and Health (Free State of Bavaria), the Clemens von Pirquet Award (EAACI), the Karl Hansen medal (DGAKI).
His hobbies are History (especially Bavarian history with Dr. phil.) and
Humour in medicine (with several allergy musicals)
