Jesús Jiménez-Barbero is Scientific Director and Ikerbasque Research Professor at CIC bioGUNE (Derio, Basque Country Spain).
He was previously Full professor, and Head of the Dept. of Chemical and Physical Biology, at CIB-CSIC
Earlier in his career he worked at CERMAV-CNRS, Grenoble, France, 1986 (Predoctoral); Dept.of Chemistry, University of Zurich (Switzerland), 1987 (Postdoctoral); National Institute for Medical Research, Mill Hill (UK) 1988 (Postdoctoral); and Carnegie Mellon Univ., Pittsburgh, USA; 1990-1992 (Postdoctoral). He has also held Visiting Professorships at ENS, Paris (2004), UPMC, Paris VI, (2009), Milano Bicocca (2009-12), and Univ Basque Country (UPV/EHU).
Professor Jiménez-Barbero has been the recipient of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry Janssen-Cilag Award in Organic Chemistry (2003), the Bruker NMR Prize of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (2008), the International Whistler Award in Carbohydrate Chemistry (2010), ChemPubSoc fellow (2016), Gamboa-Winkler Award from the Chemical Society of Hungary (2017), Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences (2017) and Medal of the Royal Society of Chemistry of Spain (2018)..
He has published over 600 papers (WoS) in refereed journals, 7 patents, and supervised 35 PhD theses, given more than 300 Invited or Plenary talks at international scientific conferences and institutions and been a member or chair of the Scientific and/or Organizing Commitees of more than 50 Symposia.

Professor Jiménez-Barbero is Past President of the Royal Society of Chemistry of Spain (2012-2018), and past Head of the Committee of Evaluation of Research in the Chemistry Programme (CTQ/BQU) of Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain (2009-2018).

His major research interest is in the molecular recognition field, with special emphasis in the development and application of NMR methods to study the interactions between ligands and receptors, paying attention to events with interest in biology and biomedicine. His research is currently funded by the ERC AdG proposal RECGLYCANMR, among other competitive projects and industrial funding from the Basque Country, Spain, and Europe.
