J. Brinchmann

I was born in Oslo, Norway 23/04/1970 and completed my MSc at the University of Oslo before moving to Cambridge University to do my PhD at the Institute of Astronomy under the supervision of Professor Richard Ellis. I have held post-doctoral positions at the University of Oxford, Max-Planck institute für Astrofysik, and CAUP before I took up a faculty position at the University of Leiden in 2008. I had this position until 2018 when I moved to CAUP in Portugal where I was director until Oct 2024. I started a faculty position at the University of Porto in March 2024 and became coordinator of the Institute for Astrophysics and Space Sciences in Portugal in September 2024. From April 1, 2025 I am Director of Science at the European Southern Observatory.
