Ib Chorkendorff

Short Biography: Professor Ib Chorkendorff earned his Ph.D. degree in Physics at the Physics Institute, Odense University. In 1986-87 he was post-doc with professor John Yates Jr. at Pittsburg University, USA. He then joined The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) as Associate Professor in 1987 and in 1999 he was appointed full Professor in Heterogeneous Catalysis at Department of Physics and Chemical Engineering at DTU. From 2005 to 2015 he was Director of “Center for Individual Nanoparticle Functionality” CINF at Department of Physics, DTU. From 2016 - 2024 he was director of "The VILLUM center for the science of sustainable fuels and chemicals" V-SUSTAIN. This role he is continuing in V-Sustain II a personal continuation of V-Sustain The main interest of Professor Ib Chorkendorff is surface reactivity applied in the field of Heterogeneous catalysis, Electrocatalysis and Photoelectrocatalysis for energy harvesting, conversion, and storage as well as environmental protection. Ib Chorkendorff is author or co-author of > 450 scientific papers published in international refereed journals, one book, and 23 patents and patent applications, which are cited >68.000 times (excl. book) (CHORKENDO* *) ResearcherID: C-7282-2008, H-Index 99 (Web of Science), or see Google Scholar. He is listed as highly cited researcher (top 1%) since 2017and co-founder of three spin-out companies. In 2017-2023 he was ERC-ADV grantee. In 2019 he was awarded the Julius Thomsen Gold medal, in 2020 a Hans Fischer Fellowship at Technical University of Munich, Germany, in 2021 Awarded the Villum Kann Rassmussen Annual Award , and in 2022 the Eni Award: Energy Frontiers Prize.
