Hans H. Goebel

Assoz.-Prof. Dr. Mag. Georg Göbel was affiliated at the Department of Medical Statistics, Informatics and Health Economics of the Medical University of Innsbruck from 1998-05/2026 as researcher in Medical Information Management and Biostatistical Consulting. He graduated in Mathematics in 2002 (PhD, Leopold-Franzens Universität Innsbruck) and received his “Venia Docendi” (Biostatistics) in 2012. In 2015 he was appointed as Associate Professor at the Medical University of Innsbruck. In 2007 he was appointed as Expert wisdom in court in Medical Informatics, Statistics, Mathematics and in 2009 he was certified as Auditor for Information Security Management Systems (ISO 27001). From 2014 to 2018 he led WP1 “Standardization and Harmonization of Sample Management” in the BBMRI.at #1 Austrian BBMRI Node which aimed to harmonize sample management based on international standards among the various BBMRI.at biobanks. In 2019 Dr. Göbel was appointed as Deputy National Node Director of BBMRI.at. In the context of Medical Statistics he uses statistical methods in order to identify biomarkers for various diseases. While his colleagues examine samples under the microscope, he models and evaluates clinical data, such as the number and distribution of certain proteins, imaging parameters and other biomarkers. In 2022 he was invited to contribute to two Austrian Health Informatics projects funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) in the context of health data privacy and information security. In the European health data context he is elected member of the EOSC AAI Task Force working on the further development of the EOSC Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure to ease the access to European-wide services for researchers and interested users. He is also leading the UX-Evaluation Workpackage of the Common-Service IT of BBMRI-ERIC since 2020. In 2024 Dr. Goebel was appointed as National Node Directtor of the Austrian Node of BBMRI (BBMRI.AT) and until 2026 he also coordinated EHDS relevant activities at the Medical University if Innsbruck.
