Dr. Tse is dually qualified in public health and pharmaceutical medicine, and an accredited medical examiner from the UK. He is the only doctor in the world receiving 10 fellowships/memberships from UK's 6 Royal Medical Colleges. He is a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. He is an elected member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (Class II: Medicine).

Gary Tse received his Bachelor of Arts with Honours (B.A. Hons.) (2008), Master of Arts (M.A.) (2012), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) (2015), and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) (2022) from the University of Cambridge.
In China, over a period of 6 years since 2015, he established the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Physiology, Cardiovascular Analytics Group and International Health Informatics Study Network for pre-clinical, clinical and meta-analysis research, respectively. He was appointed to a Professorship in 2019 and Distinguished Chair of Cardiology in 2022 by the Tianjin Institute of Cardiology, Tianjin Medical University.
He held a joint appointment as a Clinical Reader at the Kent and Medway Medical School, University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University and a Public Health Consultant at the Public Health Directorate of Medical Council (2021), and Senior Epidemiologist at the Observational and Pragmatic Research Institute, Singapore and Optimum Patient Care, Cambridge (2020), UK. He is currently Professor at the School of Nursing and Health Sciences of the Hong Kong Metropolitan University, Hong Kong.
He is a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (2020) and a Research Fellow at Institute of Advanced Studies (2021), University of Surrey, and Honorary Associate Professor at the School of Pharmacy, University College London (2022).
He is a Medical Examiner Member of the Royal College of Pathologists, received his Membership of the Faculty of Public Health (UK) and Membership of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine (UK), and was elected a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (2016), American College of Cardiology (2017), Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (2019), Heart Rhythm Society (2018), Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (Fellowship qua Physician) (2017), Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (2018), Royal College of Physicians of London (2019), Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (2019), Faculty of Public Health (UK) (2019), Royal College of Pathologists (2022) and Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (2023).
His team has published more than 200 papers in high impact journals. His H-index (Google Scholar) is 64. He is an expert reviewer for >50 international journals in cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, cardiovascular biology and epidemiology and six grant bodies from New Zealand and Poland, Sweden and the UK. He has attracted approximately HK$130 million of funding as a principal applicant and co-applicant.
In recognition of contributions to cardiovascular medicine, Dr. Tse was selected for the ECG Bayés Award by the International Congress of Electrocardiology for the best research output by a young investigator in 2018, The Bruce del Mar Junior Investigator Award by the International Society for Noninvasive Electrocardiology (ISHNE) in 2021, senior author of the work winning the First Prize of the Young Investigator Award (first author Dr. Sharen Lee) of the International Congress of Electrocardiology in 2021, the Young Investigator Award at the European Society of Cardiology Asia Congress 2021 (first author Dr. Sharen Lee) and the Young Investigator Award at the International Society of Electrocardiology Young Community Scientific Meeting in 2022 (first author Ms. Cheuk To Chung).
Dr. Tse was one of the 33 researchers from China listed on the World’s Top 2% Scientists Released by Stanford University for the Cardiovascular System & Hematology subfield for the Year 2020, one of the 57 researchers for the Year 2021, one of the 62 researchers for the Year 2022, one of the 88 researchers for the Year 2023 and one of the 104 researchers for the Year 2024 by single year citations, and one of the 32 researchers for the Year 2022, one of the 41 researchers for the Year 2023 and one of the 44 researchers for the Year 2024 by career long citations. He ranked 35th in the Top 100 cardiovascular researchers from China for 2022, rising to 26th place on the same list for 2023.
He was listed by Expertscape in 2024 as Top Expert in electrocardiography (0.023%, 1st in China, 4th in Asia and 30th Worldwide) and cardiac arrhythmias (0.073%, 5th in China and 15th in Asia).
