Frank Frizelle

Frank graduated MBChB, from Otago University in 1985, and subsequently undertook general surgical training in New Zealand obtaining FRACS in 1992. Following a period of further overseas training at the Mayo Clinic Mn, USA (colorectal surgery) and Ninewells, Dundee Scotland (laparoscopic fellowship) he took up a position on joint clinical staff with the at University of Otago Christchurch and what is how CDHB in 1996. Frank was awarded a personal Chair in Colorectal Surgery in 2000, and subsequently took over as head of the University Department of Surgery in 2006. Frank has a MMedSc from Otago University and has fellowships from the American College of Surgeons (FACS), The American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (FASCRS), the New Zealand Medical Association (FNZMA), and is an honorary member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACGBI). He has an honorary fellowship of the RCS Ireland (2018). In 2022 he was award the ONZM by the Queen. Frank is the past Chairman of Section on Colon and Rectal Surgery RACS and was a Part two examiner in General Surgery for the RACS until 2016, and was a member (2000-2014; chairman 2012-14) of CSSANZ-RACS post fellowship training board in colorectal surgery. He was Chair of the National Bowel Tumour Standards working group and Chair of the (NZGG) Guidelines Colorectal Cancer Management Guidelines for the New Zealand, and was a Member of NZ Cancer Control Council Committee. He is currently a Member Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) executive, and chairman of prostate cancer outcome register (NZ) as well and is Editor in Chief of the New Zealand Medical Journal (NZMJ) (since 2002), and on the editorial boards of 4 other journals. H index 51, and 480 publications on pubmed
